Things that have influenced this rise in profit from the self-storage industry include the rising home sizes across the United States. From 1970 to 2005 the average home size rose 55% (Brain). Companies such as Public Storage, U-Haul, and Manhattan Mini Storage have definitely take advantage of this and the fact that people are moving all the time. The amount of people who are in the market for storage has gone up a bit in the last 15 years. In fact, in 1995 it was about 1 out of each 20 people used self-storage compared to close to 1 in 10 (Brain).
In 2005 the US movie industry was raking in $9 billion while self-storage was making upwards of $15 billion (Brain). In 2007 self-storage brought in $20 billion.
